A device (1) (Fig. 1) serves for self-locomotion or for transporting objects within tubes, channels, chimneys and the like. It has a lift drive (2) as well as at least two transport or support elements (3, 3a) which can be moved relative to each other in a mutually opposing reciprocating manner approximately in the direction of locomotion. Within a tube or the like, the transport elements have an approximately plate-shaped deformation which is caused by the fact that the outer cross-section of the transport elements is somewhat greater than the clear inner cross-section of the tube. By means of this deformation a lower advance resistance in the transport direction is produced in the transport elements than in the opposite direction, so that the transport movement results. By suitable design of the transport elements especially regarding their reversal stiffness, the device can automatically change direction at open tube ends as well as at closed tube ends. If the transport elements are designed as brushes, the device (1) according to the invention can also be used as a cleaning device, especially as a chimney cleaning device. <IMAGE>
