摘要 NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R is 1-9C straight chain alkyl). USE:A nematic liquid crystal compound, useful as an electrooptical display material, having a high upper limit of nematic temperature range, and capable of preparing a TN type liquid crystal composition having a low threshold voltage (Vth), and having a strong positive dielectric anisotropy. PREPARATION:A compound of formula II is reacted with a halogenating agent, e.g. SOCl2, to give a compound of formula II' (X is halogen), which is then reacted with a compound of formula III in an inert organic solvent, e.g. benzene, within the range of room temperature-refluxing temperature of the reaction mixture to afford the aimed compound of formula I . A basic substance, e.g. pyridine, is preferably contained in the inert organic solvent.
