NEW MATERIAL:A 2-phenyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole derivative expressed by formula I (R is alkyl or haloalkyl; X is Cl or methyl). EXAMPLE:3-Chloro-2-( 4-chrloro-1-fluoro-5-ethoxycarbonylmethoxyphenyl )-4,5,6,7- tetrahydro-2H-indazole. USE:A herbicide usable in paddy fields, plowed fields, orchads, pastures, lawns, forests, uncultivated lands, etc. for soil, foliar treatment or treatment under flooded conditions. PREPARATION:A phenolic derivative expressed by formula II is reacted with a haloacetic acid ester expressed by formula III (Y is Cl or Br) in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent and if necessary a phase transfer catalyst to give the aimed compound expressed by formula I .
