NEW MATERIAL:An imidazole derivative expressed by formula I (X is CF3, NO2 or phenoxyl). EXAMPLE:N-[alpha-(p-Trifluoromethylbenzyl)-tert-butylacetyl]imidazole. USE:An agricultural and horticultural germicide, useful for powdery mildew of soybeans, Leptosphaeria nodorum of wheats, gray mold of cucumbers, used as a germicide for preventing and treating several blights at the same time and further for suppressing extension of soybean, cotton, etc. and growth of lawn, etc., and having strong herbicidal action on gramineous and broad-leaved weeds. PREPARATION:A substituted acetic acid expressed by formula II is reacted with an imidazole in preferably acetonitrile solvent at 0 deg.C - the boiling point of the solvent to give the aimed compound expressed by formula I .
