PURPOSE:To suppress blooming without deteriorating dynamic range by changing a pulse voltage value or read pulse voltage value impressed to a photo-electric converting section in response to the size of luminous amount of an object. CONSTITUTION:A pulse voltage is impressed externally to an electrode phi'BS formed at one end of a photoconductive body and a picture element reading pulse or a transfer pulse is impressed to a gate electrode phi' of a transfer transistor TB, thereby extracting externally a signal produced in the photoelectric conductor. In a solid-state image pickup device with this constitution, the picture element reading pulse impressed onto the electrode phi' or the pulse voltage value impressed onto the electrode phi'BS is controlled in response to the luminance level of an object. Through the constitution above, the blooming is suppressed without deteriorating dynamic range.
