PURPOSE:To manufacture a matrix cathode which can be highly efficiently massproduced by packing a heat-resisting hollow metallic body with mixture powder consisting of a metallic powder and an electron-discharging matter powder to make a complex body, then reducing the sectional surface area of the complex body before it is sliced and the sliced body is fixed to a sleeve. CONSTITUTION:Mixture powder consisting of a cathode-base-body metallic powder 2 and an electron-discharging matter powder 3, is packed into a hollow body 1 consisting of a heat-resisting metal to make a complex body 4. After the ends of the complex body 4 are sealed by welding or mechanical pressing, the sectional surface area of the sealed complex body 4 is reduced to a given size by swaging and by means of a lining die. The thus formed complex body 4 is sliced in a desired cathode thickness, thereby manufacturing matrix cathodes 5. After the cathodes 5 are fixed to a sleeve 6, heating elements 7 are attached to the sleeve 6 to constitute an indirect heated cathode 8. In this invention, a heat- resisting metal containing at least one element chosen from among Ni, W, Mo, Ta and Re is used to form the hollow body 1. |
