NEW MATERIAL:A phenolic derivative of formula I (R<1> is 3-8C secondary or tertiary hydrocarbon residue; R<2> is 1-12C alkyl; R<3> is 1-4C alkylene; Z is n-valent organic group; n is an integer 1-8). EXAMPLE:Bis[3-( 3-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl )propyl]=3, 3'-thiodipropionate. USE:Useful as an antioxidant for organic substances, particularly effective for antioxidizing synthetic high polymer materials, e.g. polyolefins such as polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymer, etc., polystyrene or polyvinyl chloride, etc. often exposed to severe oxidative conditions in molding and processing and using products. PREPARATION:An alcoholic compound of formula II is reacted with a carboxylic acid compound of formula III under conditions for forming an ester to afford the aimed compound of formula I .
