The invention is based on a method for the machine-stacking of woven steel fabrics, in which the latter are alternately turned and in which a delivered fabric is taken hold of above the stacking point, raised, turned about a longitudinal central axis, lowered again and released for stacking when a fabric which is not to be turned has been delivered. In order to reduce the lifting movement with regard to operating height and to smooth operation of the system, the fabric is conveyed in a superimposed vertical and horizontal movement, thereby being turned about a longitudinal axis which is offset from the longitudinal central axis. <IMAGE>
