A linear ultrasonic array which contains ultrasonic transducers arranged in a row next to one another. According to the invention, ultrasonic transmitting and receiving transducers (2 and, respectively 4), which in each case contain a lambda /4-thick stack of thin piezoelectric plastic foils (6) are in each case alternately arranged next to one another and the ultrasonic transmitting transducers (2) can be connected electrically in parallel during the transmitting and the ultrasonic receiving transducers (4) can be connected electrically in series during the receiving. This design provides a very sensitive linear ultrasonic array of simple construction. <IMAGE>
