The invention relates to an optoelectronic end-of-tape deactivating circuit for a video, audio or data recording and/or reproducing apparatus. Due to differences in reflection of the automatic stop foils and of the tape of the recording media used in these apparatuses, as well as due to tolerances of the optical components used, an adjustment of the said circuit arrangement is necessary. According to the invention, this adjustment is performed automatically by a microcomputer and continuously monitored. In the case of such a controlled end-of-tape deactivating circuit, on the one hand a clear distinction between the recording medium and the automatic stop foils attached at the ends of the tape is possible and on the other hand a reliable response of the end deactivation when the automatic stop foils run into the scanning area of the optical circuit arrangement is ensured.
