A shower spray contains a shower head insert (15) and, arranged upstream from this, a swirl-producing device (21). The water passes from the swirl-producing device (21) into a vortex chamber (27), from which it passes through an exit opening (28) into a outlet opening (32) which widens in a stepped formation. According to a preferred embodiment, the exit opening (28) is bounded by a sharp-edged border (29). <IMAGE>
