Protection system for turbo machines, in particular turbines, the valves (SSV, STV) of which, in particular control, quick-closing or bypass valves, are equipped with electrohydraulic positioning and switching drives in the form of electrohydraulic compact drives. The packaged drives comprise means for supplying electric power and for receiving electric control signals as well as for converting the latter into corresponding hydraulic positioning or switching variables; an autonomous hydraulic supply system with a hydraulic fluid tank, with at least one fluid pump driven by an electric motor and with at least one hydraulic accumulator connected to the delivery side of the pump; as well as an electrohydraulic control system with control elements for actuating hydraulic power-piston/cylinder systems serving as valve, positioning or switching drives, the electrohydraulic control system, the hydraulic power piston-cylinder system and the hydraulic supply system being integrated to form a packaged drive block arranged on the valve housing, and devices for starting up the turbine, for central tripping, for manual tripping, for protecting against excessive speed of rotation and for thrust bearing protection being provided.
