PURPOSE:To obtain a light emitting element, which has a sufficient amount of light emission in a visible wavelength region and in which light emitting efficiency and reproducibility are improved, by laminating two or more layers formed with specified amorphous material including silicon atoms, carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms, and providing light emitting layers having homogeneous junction. CONSTITUTION:Two or more layers formed with amorphous material including silicon atoms, carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms are laminated. A P-type transmitting layer 103, an I-type transmitting layer 104 and an N-type transmitting layer 105, which form light emitting layers and have homogeneous junction, are provided on an electrode 102 on a substrate 101. At least a pair of the electrodes 102 and 106 are electrically connected to the light emitting layers 103-105. The optical band gap of said amorphous materials layers 103-105 is 2.0eV or more. The local level density at an intermediate gap is 10<16>cm<-3>eV<-1> or less. The electrode 106 is provided on the layer 105. Thus a light emitting element is formed. As the amount of inclusion of the hydrogen atoms in the light emitting layers 103-105, 0.1-40atom% with respect to the silicon atoms is suitable. |
