PURPOSE:To reduce air pollution and utilize the recovered hydrocarbons again by feeding the gas in a loaded oil tank into a recovery apparatus through a cargo unloading pipe which has been installed already and returning the inert gas, etc. which can not be recovered, into the loaded oil tank. CONSTITUTION:In the captioned apparatus for recovering the volatile hydrocarbon gas in a cargo tank 1 after the cargoes which generate the voltatile gas, such as crude petroleum, etc. are unloaded, the gas in the cargo tank 1 is collected through a cargo unloading pipe 2 which has been installed already, and supplied into a recovery apparatus 6. A cooling and liquefying apparatus, absorption recovery apparatus, etc. are used as the recovery apparatus 6 to recover the hydrocarbon gas portion. The inert gas, etc. which are not recovered are returned into the cargo tank 1 through an inert-gas pipe 5 which has been installed already. Therefore, the hydrocarbon gas portion which was discharged into the air in the former can be recovered, and thus air pollution is reduced, and the recovered hydrocarbons can be utilized again as fuel, etc.
