Grid for sepg. fuel rods in a fuel element for a nuclear reactor comprises a number of overlapping grid strips, arranged in the form of a frame with clear openings to define cells for separately surrounding each fuel rod. The grid strips include projecting in each cell at least one rigid embossment for positioning the rod in the cell. The novelty is that the embossments on one pair of associated grid strips are closed for axial circulation of heat transfer fluid via the cell while other embossments of a cell on the other associated grid strips are open for longitudinal circulation of heat transfer fluid.
