The invention relates to a process for preparation of straw ash arising during the combustion of in particular straw in a straw heating boiler, as well as a device for implementing the process. The measure according to the invention for preparation of the ash consists in that it is pressed through a tapering pressing channel, as a result of which the porous ash is reduced in volume. The device is characterised by a conveying device which advances the ash, an ash-receiving chamber with a filling opening assigned to the delivery end of the conveying device, and a pressing ram which is guided movably in the longitudinal direction of the receiving chamber and driven by an actuating element, and by a pressing chamber following the receiving chamber.
