Climbing iron with a sole part and a heel part which are to be interconnected in an articulated manner at a selectable spacing by a band having catch receivers and with shoe holders which surround the shoe sole and at least one of which is fastened to the sole part adjustably in a direction towards the shoe and away from the shoe, characterised in that, by means of a positive catch connection which is detachable against spring pressure, the band is to be connected to the heel part or to the sole part and/or the adjustable shoe holder is to be connected to the sole part.
