PURPOSE:Steroid is converted with immobilized cells of tobacco plant. CONSTITUTION:Cells of tobacco plant, e.g., cells immobilized in a gel of calcium alginate, is cultured in a medium which is prepared by adding a plant growth regulator such as kinetin to a Murashige and Skoog culture medium and the conversion of steroid is effected in the resultant medium. Thus, e.g., epiandrosterone glucoside is obtained from testosterone.
