PURPOSE:To obtain a vertical magnetic recording medium which excels in corrosion resistance, sensitivity, etc. by forming plural magnetic recording layers including >=1 continuous magnetic layers containing mainly iron oxide with the ratio of residual magnetization set at a specific level between the intra-surface direction and the vertical direction to the surface. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium is obtained by forming a laminated magnetic layer containing plural magnetic layers on a substrate 6, and >=1 recording layer are defined as continuous magnetic layers 11 containing mainly Fe3O4 or gamma-Fe2O3. For instance, a layer 11 of iron oxide is formed on a magnetic layer 10 coated in the intra-surface direction (shown by an arrow) where gamma-Fe2O3 dispersed into a binder with a >=0.5 MV/MH ratio between the intra-surface and vertical residual magnetization by means of a counter target sputtering process, etc. Otherwise the layer 11 is formed on a continuous thin film magnetic recording layer 12 by sputtering of Co-Ni, etc. Thus it is possible to obtain a magnetic recording medium which has better vertical magnetic recording characteristics than conventional and excellent wear resistance, etc. with no aging. |
