PURPOSE:To make a high voltage switch for an X-ray generator small by installing a pair of electrodes facing each other in a vacuumed chamber, and shooting nitrogen gas or the like between the electrodes form a nozzle so as to change the resistance between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A pair of counter electrodes 12 are installed in a highly vacuumed chamber 11 of around 10<-5> Torr. Nitrogen gas or the like is shot between the electrodes 12 from a nozzle hole 13 by intermittently controlling a valve 14 by means of a solenoid 15 so as to change the resistance value between the electrodes 12, thereby making a high voltage switch 21. The switch 21 is connected to a high-voltage power source 24, a capacitor 23 and a main discharge part provided in an X-ray generating chamber 22. Owing to the above constitution, electric discharge can be produced between the counter electrodes of the main discharge part by decreasing the resistance between the electrodes 12 through the shooting of the gas. As a result, it is not necessary to provide large- scale insulation measures by use of a trigger electrode or the like, thereby enabling the switch to be made compact. |
