Pneumatic compressor with at least one compressor stage, particularly for high voltage output switches and for use at ambient temperatures below freezing point. Each compressor stage has a compressor unit with assigned cooler. For each cooler a parallel path is provided for the compressed air, the parallel paths being automatically switched on by means of a control device when the assigned cooler is closed due to icing or closure due to icing is to be anticipated. At the same time the parallel paths can be adapted in their technical dimensions to the assigned compressor unit in such a way that the temperatures of the compressed air in the parallel paths lie above the freezing point and the pneumatic compressor remains fully operational.
