PURPOSE:To grasp the temperature condition of the granules in a dry quenching tower for coke granules, by clarifying the correspondence between the discharged granules and the valve used in the discharge of the granule, and determining the temperature of the granules discharged from the tower. CONSTITUTION:The temperature of granules discharged from plural discharge ports 3 at the bottom of the quenching tower 1 is detected by the radiation pyrometer 17, and the discharge of the granules from the discharge valves 8a, 8b is detected by the discharge sensors 13, 14 attached to each discharge valve of each discharge port 3. The discharge valves 8a and 8b are operated to discharge the granules successively from plural discharge ports 3, and the temperature of the granule is measured by the above pyrometer 17. Separately, the working discharge valve is detected by the discharge sensors 13, 14, and the detected value is stored in a memory. Based on the stored information, the valve through which the granule under measurement is discharged can be determined.
