METHOD OF TESTING WELDING SECTION OF MULTILAYER JOINING STRUCTURE BY ULTRASONIC WAVE

A method is proposed for ultrasonically testing welds with multi-layer constructions which comprises ultrasonically irradiating the entire weld cross-section with two test heads disposed on either side of the weld at distances with a ratio of essentially 1:2. The first test head, which generates plate waves ultrasonically irradiates the two thirds of the upper layer nearest to it and the entire lower layer, while the second test head, which generates transverse waves, irradiates the entire upper layer. In addition, in order to track the weld, the coupling signal is compared with the reference signal and the precision of the weld tracking is assessed from the deviation.
