PURPOSE:To provide an agent for imparting rice plant with strong resistance to rice blast, by using specific unsaturated monoepoxyfatty acids (most of which are novel) as active component. CONSTITUTION:A new-type agricultural chemical capable of imparting rice plant with excellent resistance to rice blast is obtained by using the 18C unsaturated monoepoxyfatty acid of formula I (one of X-Z is group of formula II and the other two are CH=CH) as an active component. The compound is novel except a part thereof (the compound of formula III). The compound can be prepared e.g. by (1) extracting rice plant with acetone before coming into ears, (2) subjecting the extract to the treatment with aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, the chromatographic treatment, etc. to obtain the fraction highly active in biological test, (3) separating an ester derivative therefrom, and (4) hydrolyzing the derivative by conventional method. When the compound is absorbed in a rice plant having poor resistance to rice blast, the plant acquires high resistance to the blight.
