The actuating device has a housing (12), which has fixing means (14) for fixing it to a brake housing or the like, and a force output member (24), which has a portion (26) accommodated in the housing (12) and can be moved axially relative to the housing (12). On its portion (26) accommodated in the housing (12), the force output member (24) has a stop surface (28). A connection member (42) is fixed in the housing (12) at an adjustable axial distance from the stop surface (28). Arranged between the stop surface (28) and the connection member (42) is an intermediate member (46), flexible against elastic resistance, which closes an electric circuit between the force output member (24) and the connection member (42) if the force output member (24) has moved by a predetermined distance (b) out of an initial actuating position. The circuit contains warning lamps (54, 76) which light up in the event of advanced wear of brake linings of the associated brake.
