According to the invention, the hot, gaseous refrigerant compressed by a compressor is fed to the evaporator, bypassing a condenser arranged in the refrigerant circuit and an expansion element situated between the condenser and the evaporator. According to the invention, the high pressure side of the compressor is connected to a duct which can be shut off, which bypasses the condenser, and which opens, after the condenser, into the duct connecting the condenser to the evaporator. Moreover a bypass duct, which can likewise be shut off, is provided for the expansion element, the shut-off valves provided in these ducts being opened for the defrosting operation.
