PURPOSE:To prevent penetration of high temperature open air and dust into the space between a cylinder and a lance, by providing an air spraying orifice connected to a pressurized air source at the top end of a driving air cylinder for an expansion lance used for repair of a coke oven, etc. CONSTITUTION:An air spraying orifice 26 connected to a pressurized air source is provided at the top end of an air cylinder 5 which drives a lance 1. To perform repair work without suspending operation of a coke oven, high pressure air is pressed into the bottom end of the cylinder 5 and a wire 41 connected to the rear end of the lance 5 is streched and contracted by means of a winding drum 40 to cause the lance 1 to move forward and backward. During the above operation, a part of high pressure air is continuously sprayed through a spraying orifice 26 via a slit 19a, a hole 19, a space 14 and a slit 25 to form an air stream to cover the lance 1 near a bushing 9 and pevent penetration of high temperature open air or dust into the space between the lance 1 and the bushing 9.
