A support plate (a) is provided with a number of compartments (2) having loose sample cups (3). In the base of each compartment is a through hole (4) which in turn extends through the base of the plate. A pin may be inserted in the hole to lift the cup. The cups are of the one-time usage kind, whilst the support plate may be used several times. To permit simultaneous measurement of luminescence reactions in at least two cups by separate photo detectors, the cups or wells are optically insulated from each other. The plate receives photo detectors from above so that a light-tight connection is achieved between the cups and the detectors. - The support plate has opaque separating walls pressed into shape from black plastic. The surfaces of the separating walls may be light-reflective, using an aluminium lining on the inside of the compartment. The inside and/or outside of the cups are similarly light-reflective.
