PURPOSE:To produce an amorphous material having high quality at a high yield by ejecting a molten metal from a nozzle in the direction near the tangent in the rotating direction of a high speed rotating roll and cooling and solidifying quickly the metal to a tape and ejecting high pressure gas to the tape. CONSTITUTION:The ejecting direction (a) of a molten metal 8 from a nozzle 7 is set in the tangent direction (c) of a high speed rotating roll 6 or the angle theta thereto is set at about 0-20 deg. in a method for obtaining an amorphous tape 10 by rotating the roll 6 in an arrow (b) direction, ejecting the molten metal 8 from the nozzle 7 toward the same and solidifying instantaneously the metal. Inert gas 11 maintained under a high pressure is ejected from an auxiliary ring 9 provided along the gap alpha at a prescribed distance from the outside circumference of the roll 6 to the surface of the tape 10 on the side opposite from the roll 6 so that the long contact time between the roll 6 and the tape 10 is maintained. The above-mentioned gap alpha is preferably set at about <=0.1mm., the length of the ring 9 at about 1/4 of the circumfernce the roll 6 and the width of the gaseous flow to be ejected about twice the width of the tape 10. |
