PURPOSE:To enhance the flexural rigidity of a pillar without the cross-sectioned area thereof being enlarged, by providing such an arrangement that a spacer is disposed between and integrally connected to the flange sections of inner and outer plates. CONSTITUTION:The front end edges of outer and inner plates 1 and 2 are bent at substantially right angle to form flanges 1f, 2f which are superposed together and integrally connected by spot-welding. A spacer 3 made of, for example, steel materials and having an I-shaped cross-section is disposed between flanges 1r, 2r which are formed along the rear edges of outer and inner plates 1, 2 that are spaced and extending substantially in parallel together, and is integrally connected, at its both left and right end faces, to the inner surfaces of the inner and outer plates 1, 2 by spot-welding so that the flanges 1r, 2r are made rigid by the spacer 3. |
