PURPOSE:To facilitate the production work of an analytical element and to attain to enhance analytical accuracy by making it possible to easily achieve the adjustment of a desired pH-condition, by mutually providing a diffusion resistant acid and a diffusion resistant base in separate phases while containing at least one reagent in either one of the above mentioned two phases. CONSTITUTION:A diffusion resistant acid (an acidic polymer) and a diffusion resistant base (a basic polymer) are mutually provided in separate phases. At least one of the polymers is utilized combined with the whole or partial function of a binder for holding and fixing at least one reagent. The above mentioned two phases are mutually contacted with a liquid to show a function for adjusting environmental pH during the reaction of at least one reagent in combination. Because both of the above mentioned polymers have high molecular weights, are not moved in an analytical element and the undesired uniformization of the pH environment in the analytical element can be avoided. In addition, by introducing the combination of the above mentioned both polymers into the analytical element, the local setting of the desired environmental pH and the adjustment of the environmental pH during analytical operation can be easily performed.
