Process for optimising and producing ordered axial HGMS filters

The invention relates to a method for optimising the geometry of so-called axial HGMS filters (high gradient magnetic separation) with respect to their efficiency and a corresponding construction process for such filters. In an axial HGMS filter, weakly magnetic particles suspended in a liquid flow parallel to thin ferromagnetic wires which are magnetised in an external magnetic field applied perpendicularly to them. As a result of the high magnetic field gradients resulting in the vicinity of the wires, the particles are deposited on the wires and a separation of particles and liquid is thus achieved. The invention provides a method for discovering the most optimal arrangement of the wires with regard to filter efficiency. For a given space filling of the filter volume by the wires, the optimal arrangement of the wires is given. A production process is also described for correspondingly optimised filter matrices.
