The power-assisted steering system has a torque signal generator which consists of a torsion spring element (11) which connects the two shaft ends (10, 12) of the steering column, a sheath (13), a short-circuit winding (19) arranged thereon and two stationary coils (20, 21) which interact with said winding (19). The sheath (13) is connected to the two shaft ends via a cam-pin connection. When the steering shaft rotates, the sheath carries out a torque-dependent axial movement, and when an AC voltage is applied to the coils (20, 21), a control current for an electric motor which supports the steering movement is produced in the short-circuit winding (19). <IMAGE>
