The invention relates to a hand utensil for uncorking bottles which contain a drink creating an overpressure, in particular sparkling wine or the like, and are closed by means of a cork or stopper projecting above the bottle opening. The hand utensil is designed in the manner of tongs and has two tong legs (1, 2) which are articulated on one another and can be pivoted by hand between a closer gripping position and a more distant open position. These legs have a handle region (4, 5) at one end and a gripping region (6, 7) at the other end. In the gripping position during uncorking, the two gripping regions (6, 7) surround the projecting part of the cork or stopper and delimit a gripping opening (14) which is topped by a cover (13, 13') which extends over the cork or stopper during uncorking. <IMAGE>
