2-Substituted-1,2,4-triazolo [4,3-a]quinolin-3(2H)-ones having the formula

wherein
R<1> is hydrogen or lower alkyl located in the 5-, 6-, 7-, 8-, 9-, or 10-position of the 1,2,4-triazolo-[4,3,a]quinolin-3(2H)-one ring and having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and
R<2> is hydrogen, or a substituent attached to the 2-, 3-, or 4- position of the phenyl ring and selected from lower alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, halogen, or trifluoromethyl, or pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, are antidepressant agents. |
