PURPOSE:To accelerate the pattern contour tracing speed by obtaining a multi- value code through a conversion to express the data on a local region centering on the picture element data within a binary picture as a pre-process for tracing of the pattern contour. CONSTITUTION:A binary picture F is converted into eight bits by a multi-value code encoder 601 and stored in a memory FM602. This eight-bit data is supplied to a next direction retrieving means 605 from the memory FM602. The means 605 is provided with a next direction table 605a and a preceding diretion code latch 605b. An access is given to the table 605a from eight bits of adjacent picture elements given from the memory FM602 and the latch 605b. Thus it is possible to accelerate the pattern contour tracing that is should be performed every picture element. |
