It is known to mix refuse with coal and to subject it to a pyrolysis process, wherein the ease of ignition of the pyrolysis coke is to be improved by the addition of coal. In order to avoid carrying the coal also through the pyrolysis process, that is to say to avoid the necessity of correspondingly larger equipment, it is proposed according to the invention that the pyrolysis is operated purely with refuse and the end product - pyrolysis coke - is ground, mixed with normal coal of high volatile content and/or is used as fuel, mixed with pyrolysis oil from the process.
