PURPOSE:The materials for compensating the composition are added to melted blast furnace slags, then the mixture is remelted and made into fibers to produce rock wool of good quality such as high fiber strength, high elasticity and high heat insulation. CONSTITUTION:Slags in the melting state, originating from, e.g., iron making, are combined with the materials for compensating their composition. As compensating materials, quartzite are used as a starting material same as for portland cement, having particle sizes of less than 5mm. and powdery dolomite, etc. Then, the product is charged in an electric furnace composed of bricks resistant to corrosion by melted slag such as carbon bricks, heated up to a temperature at which the melted slag gives a viscosity for making fibers. Then, the melted slag is lead to the fiber-making equipment installed behind the furnace to form the objective rock wool. |
