The invention relates to a device for winding webs, preferably webs of roof lining material, into rolls, in which device the web can be cut either when running or when stationary. The aim of the invention is to reduce the idle periods arising in conjunction with the winding process, to increase the speed at which the web is drawn off and to achieve a constant web tension. The essence of the invention is that the diameter of a pair of drive rollers is increased so that the time it takes the web of lining material to revolve within the looping angle of the large roller is sufficient for transverse severing of the web of lining material to take place. The drag arm, which is carried along at a signal, engages with the severing drum in such a way that the severing knife of the severing carriage located on the drag arm cuts through the web of lining material in one of the severing grooves located uniformly over the circumference of the roller. When the severing process has been completed, the drag arm pivots back into its starting position. <IMAGE>
