PURPOSE:To provide a platen optimal for obtaining high printing quality even when using a rough paper as a transfer printing paper, by constituting a platen of a flat rubber plate having a specified rubber hardness HsA and having a thickness set to be a specified number of times the thickness of a glaze layer. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer printer, in order to obtain high printing quality on a rough paper, it is necessary that a glaze at a heating resistor part of a thermal head be partially projected so that the rough paper makes uniform contact with the projected glaze and a pressure of not less than 0.1kg/mm<2> is generated to press the uneven surface of the rough paper through elastic deformation. For this purpose, a platen against which the thermal head is pressed is constituted of a flat rubber plate having a rubber hardness HsA of about 20-50 deg., the thickness of the platen is set to be about 5-20 times the thickness of a partial glaze layer, and the platen is fixed to a hard flat member formed of a metal, a plastic or the like. The thickness of the partial glaze layer is set to be about 40-50mum. |
