PURPOSE:To enhance efficiency of jumping of a toner by changing voltage to be applied in a specified pattern in a developing device jumping the toner and moving it between electrodes by gradually changing voltage to be applied to each electrode. CONSTITUTION:A large number of electrodes (n) are installed on the surface of a toner carrying body opposite to a photosensitive body, and these electrodes are divided, e.g., into 8 groups n0-n7 and voltage is applied. Voltage of 0 is applied to the electrodes n0, n1; E to n2, (8/10)E to n3, n4; (9/10)E to n5. The toner on the electrodes n2-n5 moves to n0, n1, but the toner on n3, n4 is hindered with n2, n5, so jumping is caused, and since n2 is higher than n5, much toner moves from n11 to n02. The toner moves in one direction in a smoking state by shifting said state on the right side by the width of 3 electrodes and repeating voltage application without changing the application pattern. |
