The invention relates to a cabinet having movable containers, of which at least one can be accessed by a user in a prescribed position. In order for the containers to be easily accessible at a prescribed height under optimum utilisation of the available overall volume and in conjunction with low cost, it is proposed to provide next to one another two vertically arranged guide shafts (2, 4) in which containers (8 to 15) are stacked one above another. The containers (8 to 15) can be raised or lowered in the respective guide shaft (2, 4) by means of a raising and lowering device (30, 32, 34). The container located at the upper end of one guide shaft (2) and, furthermore, the container respectively located at the lower end of the other guide shaft (4) can be respectively conveyed into the other guide shaft by means of a coupled displacement device (80, 72, 74).
