PURPOSE:To read easily the contents of description with a low cost by binary coding a picture obtained through a camera for the contents of description, obtaining contour information of the description form by using a digital picture signal and comparing the contour information with the reference value for decision. CONSTITUTION:The surface of description of an object on which the contents of description, e.g., ''7'' is carved is fed in the form of a picture through a camera 1. This picture is converted into a digital signal by a binary coding circuit 2 with the processing where the bright and dark spots are defined as 1 or 0 respectively. Then the obtained picture signals are supplied to a picture memory circuit 5 and stored there. Then these memory contents are searched by an arithmetic device 6, and the device 6 detects an address which is first turned into a digital picture signal 1. This address is equivalent to a point (a), and this point (a) is defined as the start point to track a contour which comes back to the point (a) along the direction of an arrow V. Thus said contour is obtained. Then the described figure that corresponds to the obtained contour equivalent value is decided among figures 0-9. |
