<p>1460268 Nickeliferous matte AMAX Inc 31 Oct 1975 [26 Dec 1974] 45344/75 Heading C1A A nickeliferous sulphide matte in acid solution is treated by esablishing a bath of molten matte having by wt. 30-75% Ni, up to 50% Cu, up to 10% Co, 4-25% S, up to 5% iron, the nickel, copper, sulphur and when present, Co content being at least 90% of the matte, and the amount of sulphur being less than the stoichiometric quantity for combination with the metals and not more than the amount required to form Ni 3 S 2 , the molten matte being at least 100‹ C. above the liquidus solidus (L.S.) temperature of the matte composition, lowering the temperature to from 50‹ C. above to 100‹ C. below the L.S. temperature, granulating and quenching, comminuting the granulated matte, and subjecting the comminuted matte to atmospheric leaching in hot acid solution containing free sulphuric acid.</p> |
