In an apparatus for asynchronous reception of data sent in data packets at high transmission speed in the receiver in a telecommunications system, the transmitter and receiver are connected via a shared bus at particular time intervals. The apparatus comprises a delay unit 7 which receives incoming signals and has a number of outputs which take the signal to a shunting register 9 connected to the output. In addition there is a logical circuit 10 which stops the forward movement in the shunting register when the first item in this has reached a particular position and a counter 12 which reads off this particular position in each shunting register and adds the read-off items. A comparator 14 compares the sum obtained with an amount which forms the criteria for the number of read-off items corresponding to a received item.
