The invention relates to the atomisation of a liquid fuel by an auxiliary gaseous fluid in a burner. The fuel channelled by a central conduit 2 is atomised in a chamber 3 and then mixed, in a chamber 8, with the gaseous fluid consisting of at least one hydrocarbon having at least two and at most six carbon atoms and a C/H ratio lying between 1/4 and 1, so as to form an emulsion which traverses the orifices 12 of an end nozzle 11 and meets the oxygen-carrying air brought by an annular channel 14. The invention particularly applies to the atomisation of heavy fuels supplying industrial heating burners or boilers. <IMAGE>
