PURPOSE:To reduce a change in the sound output of a magnetic recording medium and to eliminate deficient tracking control by sticking a silicon compound on one edge or both edges of the recording medium in the lateral direction after cutting. CONSTITUTION:A silicon compound to be used is represented by general formula I or II, and a commercially available typical silicon compound is ''KF-96'', ''KF-69'' or ''KF-96L''. The silicon compound is optionally diluted with a solvent, and it is impregnated into a brush, a nonwoven fabric, cotton cloth, urethane foam or the like. The impregnated compound is coated or stuck to a cut face or an edge of a magnetic recording medium. The compound may be stuck to a cut face of the medium by spraying or other means. The preferred viscosity of the compound is 1-1,000cps at 25 deg.C, yet even when the compound has >1,000cps viscosity, it is practically used without causing any trouble by reducing the viscosity to <=1,000cps by dilution with a proper solvent. A magnetic liq. or the magnetic liq. and a back liq. are coated on a polymer substrate, oriented, dried, and finished to a specular surface or hardened, and the resulting material is cut to a desired width. |
