A system for reproducing an item of recorded information, in which an item of audio information is contained, is disclosed. An item of audio information in the reproduced information is converted into an audio signal which is passed to a low-pass filter in which its higher band component, which contains the high band of the audio frequency range, is attenuated. The signal drop-out, if any, of the attenuated output of the low-pass filter is compensated. The high band of this compensated output is boosted and equalised, in order to compensate the high band component of the audio frequency range which was attenuated by the low-pass filter.
