Novel phenethylamine derivatives are central nervous system antidepressants. The compounds are those having the formula where the dotted line represents optional unsaturation; R1 and R7 are, independently, hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl; R2 is C1-C6 alkyl; R4 is hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, formyl or C2-C7 alkanoly; P5 and R6 are hydrogen or defined substituents and n is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts.
