The invention relates to a method of receiving a transmission transmitted in single sideband (SSB) by a conventional receiver receiving transmissions normally transmitted under amplitude modulation. The method consists in superimposing on the wave F1 transmitted in SSB, a local wave F2 consisting of a pure sinusoidal signal identical in frequency to the carrier eliminated in the SSB transmission, in order to create a composite wave F3 equivalent to an amplitude-modulated wave received by the antenna 4 of a conventional amplitude modulation receiver 2. The device 3 which generates this local wave F2 is the combination of a quartz-driven high-frequency oscillator and of a low-frequency oscillator which, by effecting the amplitude-modulation of the pure sinusoidal signal delivered by the high-frequency oscillator, permits the frequency-adjustment of the amplitude modulation receiver. The invention applies in all cases where the reception of SSB signals is to be effected by a conventional amplitude modulation receiver without transforming the latter. <IMAGE>
